Today is the last day of school. No more school until August for me. Yeah! To celebrate, I wore some very comfortable clothes to school and then went and got my hair cut like Ginnifer Goodwin on the way home.

Can I admit that I love this skirt even though the blue is not really a type two blue? I just really have a thing for paisley. To counteract the skirt, I added a very type 4 sweater on top and silver jewelry.

Today I am wearing a hot type 4 pink top. This skirt has all the right type 4 colors in it, but it may be a bit busy for some people's taste. I don't mind busy. I kept it simple with no jewelry other than diamond studs, what with all the eyelet and floral going on. (These shoes were almost a perfect match for the skirt!)

Can I admit that I spent all of Memorial Day in old clothes? It was a working holiday for me.
This is the last week of school, so I am going out with a bang. I'm wearing this cute little bangle from Chicos with a blue tee and animal skirt.

Shoe Painting

So a while back I won some liberty print shoes on eBay. Unfortunately, the shoes I won were not what were was shipped to me. Instead, I got these shoes to the left. After being informed of the mix-up, the seller refunded my money and told me to keep the shoes. Sadly, these shoes weren't really to my taste -- rather bland and insipid. What to do? Well, shoe painting is all the rage right now, so I thought I'd give it a try.
After FOUR coats of paint, this is how they look now. I'm trying them with two different shoe clips that I own. The paint I used doesn't change the feel of the fabric (i.e. make it stiff), so overall I'm pretty pleased with how they came out. This inspired me to also try painting some bone heels that I pretty much never wear a beautiful dark purple instead. I'm also in the middle of painting a beige purse blue and a pink purse red, but those are big projects that are taking a bit longer to get done.
VERDICT: At $2-3 a bottle (I used Angelus Opaque Leather Paint in Green and Purple), shoe paint is a fairly inexpensive albeit time consuming method of obtaining a "new" pair of shoes. What do you think about how they turned out?

This is what I wore to church today. This sweater is NEON pink, which I believe is a type 4 color. This skirt has more than one other color going on, but that is life.

So I am still working on adapting my current wardrobe to type 4. I feel like this shirt "pops" with the color card, and it is bold, albeit a bit busy. I added black crops and black shoes and simple black jewelry to give it more stillness. I got a ton of compliments on this look today.
This jewelry is some I've had forever. It really is black; it's just very reflective so it's looking a little gray here.

Once again I am using my colors but with a little more going on. This time I am wearing a floral cardigan over a silk tank. I think the white gave it just the right amount of oomph (and of course, I got something on these pants, so I'll have to wash them, but, ah well, that's real life).

Now, they say when you bring your secondary in, change up pattern or texture but stick to your type 4 colors. I feel like this has the color from the card, but it has a little more going on (and I really have no type 1 at all in me except in my clothes, ha). I do like the big, bold patterns and its placement does create a grid pattern, which in and of itself is stillness, right?

I think I have mentioned before that my skirts will be the hardest item to "give up" in going to total type 4 dressing. This particular skirt is not type 4 at all (maybe the blue is icy?) other than that one must truly be bold to wear a skirt that looks like it might once have been grandma's couch. I ADORE this skirt, so I am trying to make it work. I added a type 4ish stripe shirt in icy mint and white and a very type 4 green cardigan. Then I broke all type 4 rules by adding another color into the mix with the yellow (and gold) in the necklace and the shoes. Frankly, I felt fierce and amazing in this outfit and received a TON of compliments.

Well, I thought my hair looked bad yesterday, and then...
Today I went with this knit tee shirt from Talbots that I haven't worn for quite a while. I felt like it "popped" with the color chart from type 4, and it's got a lot of parallel lines going on. I added some very un-type 4 jewelry just because I could. Who can resist these two necklaces together? I even have earrings and a bracelet to match. The jewelry is the hardest part for me as far as staying totally type 4. I'm just a blingy girl.

I don't know that this pencil skirt is really type 4, but I loved it in combination with this very type 4 stripe tee and jacket. These red shoes don't have pointy toes, but I added some blingy little shoe clips in a rectangle shape that I think up the look and make it edgier. My hair...is in desperate need of a trim, but it probably won't happen until school is out for the summer.

Friday, May 16, 2014

Today I went with this cute, simple, type 4 green cotton sweater from the J. Crew Factory. I added two very non type four items as accents, not because I am a rebel, but because it just felt quick and easy. This flower gem necklace and bracelet from Talbots have all the right colors but are set in shiny gold rather than silver. My shoes, which I got for free due to a eBay shipping mistake (got sent the wrong shoes) are not type 4 at all, but they are incredibly comfortable. I'm very tempted to try painting them with fabric spray paint the same color as this sweater.Charley Sweater in Kelly Green, J. Today's outfit was a little rushed, but I thought it turned out fairly well. I picked up this shirt from eBay for $10, and I wore it without ironing it right out of the package. It would have been better with a bit of ironing, but, ah, well. I needed the big necklace to hide the wrinkles, but next time I'll try it just ironed :) .
I wanted to wear something with a bit of animal because we just finished a unit on endangered species. Today was the final assessment, and I wanted to pay homage to all of our hard work. I think someone somewhere said that type 4 can only wear zebra, but I'm stretching that out here a bit. I've noticed that although I love (and have always loved) type 4 colors, I'm not so much a "still" person. People on the type 4 facebook page are always saying that things have "too much movement" or they are "too busy." I don't necessarily feel the same way about clothes. I don't mind a bit of busyness. Anyway, as all J. Crew shirts are, this one was an absolute joy to wear -- so comfortable! Meow!

Today I went with green jeans and a white and blue cardigan. These jeans are really the perfect type 4 green color -- my camera always turns them into teal.

I saw this skirt on two fellow bloggers recently, Effortless Anthropologie and Economy of Style and decided that I had to have it. It did not disappoint in real life -- in fact it might just be the most comfortable pencil skirt I've ever worn. I am wearing it with all black on the top, but I can see a lot of design possibilities for it.
I'm also showcasing the Talbots necklace I picked up for $10 on eBay. I think it's a very type 4 necklace.

I took this picture with artificial light early this morning, so it's not the best, but this is my look for today. I feel like this light blue tone mint is a very icy pastel -- I'm even wearing it with a mint necklace that sort of looks like little ice cubes. I had a lot of compliments on this, as the red/mint combination was quite striking.
A note on shoes: Type 4's are supposed to wear pointed toed and square toed shoes. I have a lot of problems with my feet and have to choose comfort as my first design element. I have a lovely assortment of comfortable shoes built up, and many of them have round toes. I've decided that because of the comfort factor that is SO hard to find, I will continue to wear my round toed shoes until I need to replace them.

This is what I wore for Mother's Day. I'm wearing type 4 yellow, white, and purple (this purple skirt always photographs blue, but I tried to catch its color to the right). My accessories are not really type 4, but the necklace went so well, the shoes are beyond adorable, and the earrings were given to me this morning by the DD, so what's a lady to do?
