Purchases for September

This is the second month in a row that I have kept this around $100. I am proud of myself.

Today I wore something a little less, well, colorful. I've had this embellished set for quite a while, and I thought it played well with the camel skirt. I went with these vintage Sketchers Mary Janes after noticing that I could actually wear these with my orthotic inserts. (I've been keeping my shoe wear very conservative and low this year, and it's helping a lot with the plantar fasciitis.)

I haven't worn this foulard tile-print cardigan for a while, and I thought it would be warm enough to keep the chill away in the chapel. Luckily, I brought my trusty navy trench coat along, because it was extremely cold in the chapel. Downright freezing actually. The BHW gave a talk today, and he did an amazing job as usual. I am very proud of him.

This is what I wore to my soon to be niece's wedding shower. The bride to be, the mother of the bride, and I were all wearing pretty much the same pants. Ha.
Matchsticks in Sunflower, J. Crew; School of Fish Tippi in Navy, J. Crew; Jewelry, eBay.

Today I wore the tried and true combination of my beautiful animal sweater with colored jeans. A tribal-look necklace finished off the look. I had to add copious layers to this outfit for the BYU / MTSU football game this evening.
Silk Animal Sweater, Chicos; Alisha Skinny Denims in Red, Nordstroms; Jewelry, Chicos.

A while back I posted a look alike outfit for this combination that came from J's Everyday Fashion Blog. This looked better on than it does in the picture -- I'm all hunched over.
Platinum Denim Jeans in Silver, Chicos; Polka Dot Top in Gray, Kohl's; Cardigan in Vermillion, Banana Republic (my $7 score of the month), Jewelry, Ily Couture.

I don't think I even wore this vintage shirt last year, but my recent closet reorganization has brought some more of my old favorites to light. I used to wear this shirt with brown, but nowadays I skew a little brighter, so I thought I'd try it with turquoise.
This necklace was a gift from the DD who went with her hubbie to Cancun for Christmas. I hadn't worn it much because the clasp had little wires sticking out that poked me and drove me crazy. Today I just coated them with the glue gun -- I'm hoping that will solve the problem because it's a cute necklace.

Pantone Fall 2013

Tuesday, September 24, 2013

Last year I bought a mustard and ivory striped shirt from Banana Republic. I haven't worn it much because I realized after the first wearing that the boatneck was too wide -- I don't like to flaunt my bra straps for the world. I buy medium for my bust (32 G) so my shoulders are actually very narrow. Anyway, I saw this little lovely at Talbots, and I knew I needed it to fill the hole in my wardrobe that wasn't quite filled by the BR one. I immediately put it to work with this cute Floral Bouquet Pencil Skirt that I've had for ages. (On an interesting side note, I recently noticed on Pinterest that this skirt is almost a dead ringer for the Oscar de la Renta Floral Print Skirt, except that instead of $450 I probably paid $30 or less for it.) I added my ever trusty Costco Jean Jacket for the chilly early morning trip to school.
A note about the jewelry: this necklace is from Talbots, and I've had it for a long time. I'd probably wear it more often, except that it tends to fold over at the top where the multiple strands attach.

This floral stripe shirt is such a good mixer. It goes equally well with yellow, blue, white, navy, and . . . red. I think it would probably mix well with brown and orange, too. Anyway, this shirt always makes me feel cheerful when I wear it.

Today I wore this very pink combination. This is one last gasp at summer wearing.
Seasonless Wool Skirt in Pink, Talbots; Abstract Floral Cardi in Pink Flambe, Talbots; Microfiber Tank in Pink, Chicos; Patent Belt in Pink, Talbots; Jewelry, Talbots.

Red has always been my favorite color, and Talbots does know how to do red. This jacquard skirt was a favorite of mine from last year but...I gained a little weight at the end of the year and over the summer (probably from the job stress). Now that things are running more smoothly, I've lost the weight and I can wear this adorable skirt again!! This really had nothing to do with the BYU versus Utah game tomorrow. Ha.
This necklace/earring/bracelet set I'm wearing here is one I made, and I rather like it. I am disappointed to notice that the large charm in the center of the necklace is starting to tarnish. I'll have to replace it, I guess.
Note the sensible teacher shoes!

I decided to pattern mix but not to go with anything really bright today. I did add the necklace, shoes and earrings to give the outfit a little oomph. I rather liked the polka dots with the lattice print, and as the sweater and skirt are pretty much an exact color match, the BHW said that they looked like they were made to go together.

I am rather enamored of this Talbots skirt from last year. I hadn't tried it with a simple green tee, so that's what I went with today. This was a comfortable way to spend a hectic day teaching.
Watercolor Rose Pencil Skirt, Talbots; Green Long Sleeve Tee, Talbots; Jewelry, Talbots and Chicos.

Friday, September 13, 2013

I didn't want to tempt karma too much since it's Friday the 13th today, so I'm sticking to a rather familiar palette of blue and red. Technically this shirt color is called fresh strawberry, but it reads more like orange red -- it's a very striking color. I bought it to go with the orangish red of the raj paisley skirt. I added the seersucker skirt I got on eBay for $15 and some denim lapis jewelry.

Today is my birthday (for good or bad) so I decided to bling up this simple outfit with the addition of the fan fringe necklace. My little bracelet from the J Crew Factory was a nice added touch. The BHW brought me a cute balloon bouquet at work, so pretty much everyone knew it was my birthday.
Merona Pencil Skirt in Flame, Target; Sailboat Tee, J. Crew; Jewelry, J. Crew.

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

It had been quite a while since I wore this vintage Talbots top, so I tried it today. I do love navy blue.
Seasonless Wool Skirt in Navy, Talbots via eBay; Travelers Tank in Navy, Chicos; Deep V-Neck Top, Talbots; Jewelry, Coldwater Creek and Target.

This was the outfit I wore to church today. I rather liked how the sweater went with the sunshine peony skirt. I'm also rather fond of this cute little Talbots necklace I picked up for next to nothing on eBay -- it looks so cute with my polka dotted things.

Thursday, September 5, 2013

This outfit doesn't look like much here, but this was actually very cute on. This trompe l'oeil sweater looked cute with the groupdealz necklace. This is the first time I've worn this necklace because I thought it looked pretty cheap when I got it, but it felt like it added just the right touch of color in just the right place with the sweater. I wish all my skirts were as comfortable as this ponte skirt -- it's so comfortable to wear.

Hmm...I haven't done very well keeping track of my outfits, but the new job is taking a lot of my time and energy right now. I did enjoy wearing this school of fish Tippi sweater with a purplish skirt. This was a big bargain outfit, as I got the sweater for $18, the skirt from Nordstroms a long time ago for $19, and the jewelry from Chicos for a song (this is one of the necklaces that I shortened -- I made matching earrings with some of the beads I took out).
A word on shoes. Last year I was wearing cuter shoes, but I paid for it with a nasty case of plantar fasciitis. This year I am wearing very comfortable, sensible shoes, and my feet are happy for it.

I wore this to church today in honor of my friend Shannon and her valiant struggle with breast cancer.
