August 18 - 23, 2015

Now that I'm working full time! and not just in shorts and a tee shirt, I'm back to posting. Here's what went down the first week of school.

April 20-27, 2015

This has been a typical crazy April week with everything from sun to snow and in between. I have 24 more days of school, but who's counting?

March 16 - 22, 2015

Oh the joy of that first day to go without tights! It's been such incredibly nice weather lately -- 70 degrees every day. This outfit felt wonderfully springy, and yes, my iPad just fit in my bag. Another favorite outfit of the week was the red orange jeans with the whale tippi -- plus I loved the vintage fish prints I put on the Polyvore.
Funny note of the week: when my neighbors came to visit one of them said, "Did you know you are famous?" Apparently, she has been following my blog for a while and told the ladies in her carpool about it. Anyway, when my neighbor picked them up on Friday, one of them said, "Guess what! I'm taking a class and guess who is in it? Denée from What Denée Wore Today." Ah, fame.

February 1-9, 2015

The outfit with all the tops was what I wore on the plane and packed to go on a four day trip to Arizona. I wore the jeans, jacket, red sweater, blue sneakers, and jewelry on the plane and brought the three other sweaters and the skirt to change into. I got all this plus my makeup bag, toiletry bag, underwear/pajamas, an iPad mini, Kindle, wallet and cellphone in a large red purse because that was all that I could take on the plane for free. It was very minimalist packing; but it worked very well. I even had enough room to bring a gift for my mom!

I'm not much of a shopping guru blogger. I don't usually link to my purchases, and I'm such a bargain driven shopper that what I buy is usually almost gone by the time I've tried it out. This is the case with the skirt I wore today, but I loved it so much I wanted to mention it in case it is still available in the size anyone wants. This is the Modern Houndstooth Pencil Skirt. As far as bold and striking and type 4, it is really the perfect skirt. It looked drop dead gorgeous today with a simple red sweater and my faithful black jacket from Talbots. The fact that I got it for $40 only made it more desirable as far as I'm concerned.

Today is the Christmas program at church, and I am singing in the choir. Usually I wear red, but this year I've been rather enamored of blue, so I decided to go blue instead. Blue is a Christmas color, right? I love how the diamanté buttons look peeking out of the 3/4 sleeves of this jacket--love the blue boots--love the fringe net scarf--just love the whole outfit together. I'll probably change into black jeans for the family Christmas party this evening.

The outfit on.
Today was a special session of stake conference. I sang in the choir, so I tried to dress it up a bit. This tribal skirt from Anthropologie always makes me feel cheerful, so I went with it today. I added a classic black jacket from Talbots that always makes me feel like a million dollars.

Me, trying to get a good shot of my blue streak -- can you see it?

Hmmm... I don't know if this is working.

Can you see it now? I'm loving this blue streak, BTW.

This is what I'm wearing today. Today is really all about my sweet momma though. She is 69 years old today! Happy Birthday, Mom!!
She is the queen fashionista.

This is what I wore to church today and to the LDS Family Fellowship meeting in the evening. These cobalt boots used to be oily brown, but I painted them cobalt blue (because now that I've got rid of all my brown things, I have nothing to wear them with). I rather like how they turned out. This sweater is the gray merino wool one with the rhinestone neckline that I tried to dye cobalt blue. Instead it came out a rather heathered blue. It went well with the blue of the raj paisley.

This is what I wore to church today. Yes, it's tights weather here in Utah. I really love this cashmere sweater -- it feels like fall while it's using colors from my colors that look good on me. Win, Win!
Tahari Black Pleat Bottom Skirt; Macy's; Hue Tights in Rose Pink, Macy's; Travelers Black Tank, Chicos; Earrings Chicos. I am wearing my new Lonna Shooties that I got for an amazing price!

Today is the 1000th post I've made on this blog. My style has evolved quite a bit -- I'm much more daring with color now than I used to be. To celebrate this milestone achievement, I'm sponsoring my first ever blog giveaway -- a surprise package of blingety bling bling -- necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, if you want them. (And if you read this blog, you'll know I have great bling.)
If you are interested in entering the giveaway, please leave a comment below with your contact information. I will randomly choose a winner from the entries. The contest will end at midnight on Thursday, November 6th. Thanks to all of you, and good luck!
Now, as far as outfits go, I decided to go very retro for this 1000th outfit. These are all items I've had for about ten years or so -- it just seemed in keeping with the theme of the day. Ironically, this is nothing too colorful or crazy, but today was Sunday, I am leading the little kids in primary music, so I have to move around a lot, and it felt like something I could wear to church and not freeze in. Today was tights day -- the first day to wear tights this year.

I was originally only wearing this lace top with this skirt, but it was so cold in the chapel that I had to run home and grab this jacket. This jacket is one that I dyed from beige to green earlier this year. It came out pretty awesome, didn't it? Anyway, today was the Primary program practice which is always insane, but I lived through it.
Painterly Floral Pencil Skirt, Talbots; Eyelet-Front Top in Wild Strawberry, J. Crew Factory; Green Jacket, Talbots; Jewelry, Talbots.

This is what I wore to church. The stripe on this shirt is actually a bit more navy, making the overall look pretty harmonious -- perfect for singing in the choir.
Paisley Pencil Skirt, J.Crew; St. James Galathee 3/4 Sleeve Stripe Tee in Navy/Persimmon, Jewelry, J.Crew.

Sunday, October 12, 2014

This is what I wore to church. I love blue with green, and I felt like the super bright top counterbalanced the definitely not type 4 skirt (which I love to death even though it isn't type four). I really like this cobalt jacket that I picked up earlier this year at a very good price from Macy's. I actually wasn't originally planning on wearing it, but the temperature dropped dramatically today, and I felt like it was necessary!!
Floral Skirt, Talbots; Merino Wool Tippi in North Sea, J.Crew; Calvin Klein Collarless Exposed-Zipper Jacket in Electric Blue, Macy's; Jewelry, Talbots via eBay (a matching set that I slowly acquired piece by piece).

I love General Conference weekend. Life is so relaxed, and there is always a talk or two that I really love. President Uchtdorf is always my favorite, and I really loved President/Elder Holland's talk, too. (I still think of him as president from back in my BYU days.) My mom and dad were in town for a mission reunion, so I dressed up a little more than I usually do to watch -- my Loft mitered maxi skirt and one of my dyed green tees. I added the earrings that the BHW gave me for my birthday -- I didn't have the heart to tell him that he'd already bought me the same pair a few years ago. Ha.
Origami Neck Tee in Kelly/Apple Green, Talbots; Mitered Maxi in Navy/White, Loft; Harry Mason Earrings, Gift from the always amazing BHW.

Today I walked on the wild side of orange with this sweater and this adorable skirt that I am already in major love with. I dyed this sweater orange from a nondescript beige, and I really like it in the new orange. (The orange stripe tee didn't actually show under the sweater, so I wasn't being too crazy with pattern mixing here.) I even added the orange pumps I painted. Yowza!!
Tracy Reese Colorblock Skirt in Orange, Anthropologie, Crochet Stripe Tee in Orange Crush, Talbots; Crochet Cardigan in Orange Crush, Eddie Bauer; Jewelry, Coldwater Creek.

I wore this quick outfit to the Ogden Temple Dedication service at our stake center. I picked two of the merino wool tees up at Costco, and I really like them. They're very comfortable, and the color is quite saturated and rich -- richer than it looks here on my monitor. I think every Sunday service should be just as long as the dedication -- 1.5 hours is just right. I know, evil me. I used both of my Venus Flytrap necklaces to add some bling -- perhaps I should have added some length? Everything is so difficult when you're always in a rush.

Today I had the great opportunity to sing in the choir for the 153 stake regional conference. They had all the ladies wear either purple, yellow or green tops to give the effect of a beautiful garden. I went with my highlighter yellow cardigan. It was an amazing experience to sing with a choir that large for a full crowd in the Marriott Center with two apostles and broadcast all over!!
