November 30 - December 6, 2015

This was a crazy week. I went in for a mammogram on Tuesday, was at school from 7 AM to 10 PM on Wednesday, and I've been picking up and driving a friend whose car broke down, so that has added an extra 10 minutes onto my commute every day. To make things worse, I had a call back from the hospital after my mammogram saying that they need me to come back for a closer look. Plus all the students at my school are acting like hyper bunnies because it's that awkward three weeks between Christmas and Thanksgiving. So....I've tried to dress nicer just to make up for the craziness.

November 23 - 29, 2015

This was a short week as far as work goes -- I was only there Monday and Tuesday. Our Thanksgiving celebration was small and at our home -- we did break out the nice china, though, which was fun.

November 16 - 22, 2015

I spent the first three days of this week at a conference in SLC put on by SolutionTree. It was all about professional learning communities. I learned a lot of great things that I'd like to try out in my classroom and at our school.

November 9 - 15, 2015

Once again I have been as busy as a person could possibly be and still be a person. Teaching seven classes of 32-36 students is hard work.

November 2 - November 8, 2015

Another crazy week. I noticed that I'd been pretty plaid all week so I threw in a pretty floral at the end just for fun. I honestly think black and blue might be my favorite color combination.

October 26 - November 1, 2015

This new week of the term has been much calmer. I am determined not to give two large assignments at the same time this term. I don't always keep my goals, but hopefully this one will come true.

October 19 - 25, 2015

This has been a crazy busy last week of the term. I hardly had time to think. I'm definitely never giving my classes two writing assignments due at the same time again...or a big assignment at the end of the term, either. It's finally got cool enough to break out a few vests or jackets.

October 12 - 18, 2015

This was a short week -- only three days of school.

October 5 - 11, 2015

This was another busy week. The weather here has been so beautiful that I've just been trying to enjoy it while it lasts.

September 28 - October 4, 2015

In a word, crazy. This week was so long and intense. I had a PDC meeting, an all day professional development class with Cris Tovani, and parent teacher conference on Thursday from 3 to 9 PM. I am pretty worn out after such a stressful week.

September 21 - 27, 2015

I couldn't even really think about clothes this week because I was so obsessed with the Volkswagon Beetle Convertible the BHW bought me for my birthday. It just makes me happy when I come out from work and see this car.

September 8 - 13, 2015

This was a short week, and I needed it. I actually ended up wearing the outfit with the red shirt for two days because I forgot to bring a change of clothes with me to Cedar City for the Shakespeare festival (fastest packing ever, and no, it didn't go well).

August 31-September 6, 2015

Well, I made it through the third week of school. I've been a little tired, partly because my room was so cold, and I think it was a little draining on me to be in there. I finally got the temperature adjusted on Thursday. It had been about 66 degrees every day, but I got the janitor to push it up to 72 degrees, which feels pretty good. I'm a much happier camper. I'd worn a button-up with a wool sweater on Thursday, and I actually got a little warm by the end of the day. This is a long weekend, and it is much needed for me to get back into equilibrium.

August 24-30, 2015

One thing I've discovered about my new classroom is that it is absolutely, positively, freezing cold. The air conditioning is definitely working overtime in there. This is why in my Friday entry I am wearing a sweater with a sweater jacket over it. It just had to happen. I was also wearing wool socks. In August.

August 18 - 23, 2015

Now that I'm working full time! and not just in shorts and a tee shirt, I'm back to posting. Here's what went down the first week of school.

And She's Back...

Spain was truly a land of enchantment for me and I enjoyed almost every minutes of being there. My streamlined 21 piece travel wardrobe worked like a dream. Here are some highlight pictures:
Me sitting on the famous Gaudi bench at Parc Guell.
The Roman aqueduct at Toledo -- note the very modern set up for a rock concert in front of it.
We found an antiquities restoration expert hard at work in the Alhambra.
Alison and I get a quick picture with some Don Quixote graffiti in Alcala.
Me and my castle.
Spanish cuisine is heavy on meat and potatoes. I had a hard time maintaining my vegan lifestyle. Yes, that black sausage is blood sausage. Many of the places our group went to had a preplanned menu for us, and this is what they served. I'm not going to comment because I think the picture says it all.
Here I am succumbing to the cooling lightness of gauzy cotton clothing at the Plaza de España in Granada. My hat was truly a lifesaver in the relentless heat.
My feet in the exact center of Spain -- and Sam's turtle that he took everywhere to take pictures of for his wife.
A sweater I loved but figured I could make myself for much less. There was a lot of thin cotton worn due to the high temperatures.
We explored many a beautiful, narrow street. There is a very Moroccan feel to southern Spain.

Finally, me getting a foot massage from the relentless cobblestone streets.

Spain Trip June 9 - 28, 2015

I am going to Spain for three weeks. Yes, I am going crazy with travel this summer. Here is what I'm taking. I have decided to go ultra light (for me), and I just have one carryon suitcase and a pickpocket proof day bag. I made the 21 piece wardrobe set (not counting the socks) above, and I'm planning on making the outfits below. Everything is very hot climate friendly. I'm just bringing one neutral cardigan and a rain jacket. I bought Eagle Creek packing cubes and a new suitcase, and man am I streamlined! Hopefully I should only have to do laundry twice on the trip, and I plan on just doing it in the sink. I'm also going minimal on the jewelry, and I'm just taking one pair of California Convertible earrings from Harry Mason and bringing different dangles to change up the look.

Mama Dragon Retreat in St. George, May 30 - June 5, 2015

I spent the first week after school got out at the weeklong Mama Dragon retreat in St. George. This was an amazing time to relax, connect, share, grow, learn and communicate with other Mama Dragons. Our group is growing exponentially, and we really feel like we are at the forefront of a swelling tide of love that can't and won't be stopped.

May 25-31, 2015

All I can say is school is out!! It was a rough few ending weeks. I am glad to be finished with all of it for the summer.

May 18 - 24, 2015

Well, it's now official. After two interviews and an teaching observation, I was just offered a full time English teaching job at Mountain Ridge Junior High. I really wanted the job, and they had me sweating bullets for two days wondering if they liked me. Apparently they liked me a lot -- when I called them back, the vice principal said that I blew the competition away. Booyah! It was stressful, as they wanted to come and observe me teach on one of the last days of school -- everyone else in the building was having a party. My students were less than thrilled to be having a lesson instead, but it worked out well.

May 11 - 17, 2015

Things are getting crazy. I had a meeting for my trip to Spain and an interview for a new job. I'm looking forward to summer!!!

May 4 - 10, 2015

I didn't post a Sunday outfit because, if I'm being honest, going to a Mormon church on Mother's Day is not going to happen for me. I just can't handle the guilt trip. I will enjoy visiting the BHW's mom later today. Happy Mother's Day to all.

April 20-27, 2015

This has been a typical crazy April week with everything from sun to snow and in between. I have 24 more days of school, but who's counting?

Lilly Pulitzer for Target

When I got on the internet this morning, the whole world was buzzing about Lilly Pulitzer for Target. I remembered that I was a little enamored of the button-up (even though it's not really a type 4 clothing item).  So, I ran over to the local Target at 8:30 AM and grabbed some items. I got two things for me and two things for the DD. I don't know if she will like them or not, so they may be going back.

Update: The shift dress below looked absolutely adorable on the DD. I guess I'll keep everything except maybe the pants.

Next Update: Yes, I was one of the evil people who listed Lilly for Target on eBay. I sold the size large Nosey Posie Shirt for $55 dollars and the Boom Boom Palazzo Pants for $50. With taxes, PayPal's cut, eBay's cut, and shipping, that put my total for the three items I kept at about $12 each. I'm a happy camper.

I got this shirt in two sizes. I normally wear a medium, but I thought I might need a large. I didn't. This shirt isn't quite this bright in real life.
I also picked up these palazzo pants. I'm not sure I'll keep them--what in the world would I wear with them or wear them to? Hmmm....
I picked up these two possibly for the DD.

April 13 - 19, 2015

What can I say? It's been an incredibly busy week. I was very relieved to get the CUWP book group on Thursday done with -- it's a bit of a scheduling nightmare.

April 6 - 13, 2015

This was Spring Break week, so not much was happening. I had great plans to get a few things done, but some of those went by the wayside. (We spent most of our Saturday fixing our washing machine -- it's things like that that end up getting our attention sometimes.) Everything here is very kick back, which was fine with me.

March 30 - April 5, 2015

Did I actually get dressed up for General Conference? Of course not. But, if I was that industrious, this would have been a fun outfit to try out. I kept things pretty casual this week. Spring Break is here, hurrah!!

March 23 - 29, 2015

The weather has been so absolutely beautiful this week that I've really been drawn to florals and fun colors. Only one more week until Spring Break!

March 16 - 22, 2015

Oh the joy of that first day to go without tights! It's been such incredibly nice weather lately -- 70 degrees every day. This outfit felt wonderfully springy, and yes, my iPad just fit in my bag. Another favorite outfit of the week was the red orange jeans with the whale tippi -- plus I loved the vintage fish prints I put on the Polyvore.
Funny note of the week: when my neighbors came to visit one of them said, "Did you know you are famous?" Apparently, she has been following my blog for a while and told the ladies in her carpool about it. Anyway, when my neighbor picked them up on Friday, one of them said, "Guess what! I'm taking a class and guess who is in it? Denée from What Denée Wore Today." Ah, fame.

March 9-15, 2015

As a teacher here in Utah, my only hope of a raise with our stingy legislature is a lane change. I got one last year, and I am working to get one again this year. I have been taking lots and lots of extra classes -- I dare say that I am getting worn out. Anyway, this was about all I could work myself up for as far as dressing goes. It's getting so warm here that I may start going without tights soon.

March 2-8, 2015

I think I may have overscheduled a bit for this week as I had two three hour night classes, two days of 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM school with student led conferences, and an 8:00AM to 4:00 PM class on Saturday. I actually feel physically ill after sitting all day on Saturday (not enough padding on my bum anymore to do that!) That may be why my dressing got more and more casual as the week wore on. With DST starting tomorrow plus a full day of professional development including a presentation, I'll be taking a break from church today to rest up and recuperate. As far as outfits go, I am truly in love with the Indy Plaid skirt I got for $21.99, and I wore ponte pants with secret elastic waistbands for the last two days of the week - that shows how lazy I am.

February 23 - March 1, 2015

This was a crazy busy work week and life week for me. Things are ramping up at school due to the end of the term. I tried to keep things pretty casual and still add a lot of color to my life -- hopefully I succeeded!

February 16-22, 2015

This has been a fun fashion week for me. Our weather has been crazy warm for February (I'm talking 70 degrees!), but it took a turn for normal Friday night, February 20th, just in time for my brother's band's outdoor rock concert. Hence the mittens and gloves. I wore the casual maxi skirt look for the PFLAG/Affirmation meeting at my house, but I might have needed to ditch the jacket -- it got rather hot in here with 30+ people.

February 10-14, 2015

I wore a lot of red this week, but hey, it's Valentines Day! The BHW and I celebrated by going to see Ann Hampton Calloway perform with the Utah Symphony. It was a really gorgeous musical evening and really put us in the mood, wink, wink!
I went with a more casual Valentines style for my last day of work before Presidents Day. Monday I will get a much needed vacation day.

February 1-9, 2015

The outfit with all the tops was what I wore on the plane and packed to go on a four day trip to Arizona. I wore the jeans, jacket, red sweater, blue sneakers, and jewelry on the plane and brought the three other sweaters and the skirt to change into. I got all this plus my makeup bag, toiletry bag, underwear/pajamas, an iPad mini, Kindle, wallet and cellphone in a large red purse because that was all that I could take on the plane for free. It was very minimalist packing; but it worked very well. I even had enough room to bring a gift for my mom!

January 20-24, 2015

Hmmm...after three days I noticed I'd worn green every day this week. Maybe this is my way to fight back against the gray and dreary winter weather we are having?

Sunday, January 18, 2015

I'm not much of a shopping guru blogger. I don't usually link to my purchases, and I'm such a bargain driven shopper that what I buy is usually almost gone by the time I've tried it out. This is the case with the skirt I wore today, but I loved it so much I wanted to mention it in case it is still available in the size anyone wants. This is the Modern Houndstooth Pencil Skirt. As far as bold and striking and type 4, it is really the perfect skirt. It looked drop dead gorgeous today with a simple red sweater and my faithful black jacket from Talbots. The fact that I got it for $40 only made it more desirable as far as I'm concerned.

January 11-17, 2015

I think my favorite outfit of the week was the black and white windowpane plaid skirt with the green sweater. I love black and green together. The sad clothing event of the week was accidentally getting a blueberry ground into the sleeve of my new-to-me Molly Ottoman orange jacket. Sigh. Hopefully it will come out.

January 4 - 10, 2015

This was a whirl wind week as usual, going back to school. I tried to stick with basic primary colors.  The purple and yellow skirt set was just the right touch to wake up the week.

Thursday, January 1, 2015

We went super casual for New Year's Eve last night -- just meeting with the family and enjoying some board games. Today we had our traditional New Year's Day open house where we invite every one we know, put out a lot of food, and play games all day. It was a lot of fun. This is what I wore, along with Harry Mason earrings and slipper sox. I ordered this Talbots sweater after Christmas with a GC and amazingly got it in time to wear for New Years!
Joyful Sweater, Talbots; Gingham Utility Shirt in Navy, J.Crew; Modern Skinny Jeans, Loft; jewelry, Harry Mason via the BHW.

Now to the news for the year. I love this blog and spend a lot of time on it -- probably too much. I have other things I need to be involved with -- I have a novel mapped out that needs to get written, a guitar to play, school and classes, and family. So -- I am going to limit my posting to once a week for the rest of the year. I may post several outfits on the day I post, or I may just post my favorite -- I'm not sure. I'll still be dressing fiercely, so don't worry about that! I think this will lead to a better overall year for me while still allowing me to have the creative outlet that this gives me.

Thanks for reading and have an amazing year in 2015!
