Utah Valley in the winter time is a very dreary place. We basically live in a bowl, which gets filled with what we call "inversion" and other people might call "smog." Because of that, I can't take these shots in natural light, and unfortunately, I use compact fluorescents in the hall where I take these -- so my colors and lighting are not so hot.
I was really on the fence about whether or not to keep this mustard sweater, but I decided that for eleven dollars, I would. The problem is that this color and my face don't really look that great right up next to each other. So, i'm wearing a scarf that matches the pink in the skirt as a buffer. I am loving the mustard tights with this skirt!!!

I didn't have to go to work today because of MLK day, but I did go to the movie, Life of Pi, with the family. This and a wool coat kept me warm in the rather cold movie theater.

eBay Strikes Again

I had a nine dollar eBay credit expiring on Feb. 2nd -- well, I couldn't just throw away nine dollars, could I? So, I decided to bite on this cute little item:

With the credit, this shirt came to just ten dollars.
The big mystery was what exactly it would look like. There were three pictures of it on eBay, and each one looked very different. Well, Saturday it came in the mail, and the mystery was solved:
The actual color is the one on the right. Because this is a "haberdashery" item, it has beautiful finishing details, including covered matching buttons.
I feel like I got a pretty good deal for ten dollars, and this just rounds out my spending for the month. I stuck to my budget of less than $100!

I'm embracing the stripes here. I just felt like being a little wild (to match my hair, mayhap?). This is one of the very few things that I've ordered from J. Crew lately that I've actually kept. I guess I've come late to the J. Crew party, and I feel like I got here after all the cake and balloons. I've found some vintage skirts on ebay which I love, but most of their new things are . . .  hmmm . . . blegh. The quality is questionable and the styling is so-so -- very blocky for me so far. The only thing that I really love that they have are the liberty print shirts, and I live too far away from a store to get them at really good sale prices, and the VPS service never works for me.

Today I wore my liberty indian red shirt, blue pants and this fringed jacket. I was wearing this jacket one last time to try and feel the love, but after one of my students made a funny comment about the jacket, I knew it had to go. Someone somewhere is going to love this jacket, so I have listed it on eBay.

Way back in May 2012, I saw this post on Polyvore, and I was in love. A few days later, I saw this jacket on eBay for $15, and I bit on it. I hadn't tried it yet this year, but decided to trot it out with my green jeans (that are the same color as the skirt--my camera is washing everything out right now. I LOVED this outfit -- it felt so spunky.
I quickly changed into a purple (yes, bright purple, even if the picture doesn't look like it) skirt for a visit to the temple with the BHW, and I loved that combination as well. Now I am wishing I'd pulled this jacket out  earlier this year.
I tried this jacket with a black button-down blouse and didn't like it, but I like it quite well with the simple black blouse I have it with here.

I am trying to wear things I haven't worn so much this year, so I pulled out this houndstooth jacket and paired it with a ponte knit top and bright fuchsia skirt. The jacket looked awesome with this grouping, but it didn't stay on much at work due to how warm it is.

I loved this outfit on me today, but after looking back at my inspiration photo, I probably should have added a belt. I do love the touch of yellow with the gray, though. And it's always a good day when I can wear my beloved yellow pointy toed shoes.
As far as necklaces go, I have been stacking necklaces more and more these days. This is a three strand pewter pearl  one with the chrysanthemum one -- both from Talbots via eBay.

It has been around 5 degrees every day for quite a while, which means that I've got to have layers. I am not a naturally warm person -- my feet are as cold as ice all winter. Today I wore this animal velveteen suit with a cashmere sweater to church in an attempt to keep warm. Thanks to my cashmere wrap, it succeeded to some extent.

Today I went with a wrap skirt from Eddie Bauer that I've had for a very long time. I moved the buttons over about two inches recently, and I like it even better now (less gaping). This is a thick wool skirt that feels like a blanket, which is perfect for our none-too-warm chapel on an arctic Sunday in January. I added a diamante sleeved merino sweater and a vintage 3/4 sleeve jacket over the top.

Today I went with a chocolate colored Chicos Travelers top and a vintage Talbots tweed skirt. I wore the matching jacket to and from school, but just the top at school -- I've got 30 students heating up my life and don't need a jacket. I wore my new jewelry that Mike and Alison brought back from Cancun. Unfortunately, the necklace broke, but I think I can fix it (probably better than before).
